Starting today, the Quezon City government
will enforce strict use of plastic bags and will totally eliminate the use of Styrofoam
products. Even in public wet markets, use of plastic bags will be limited and
everyone is encourage to bring their own bags or else pay P2 plastic recovery
system fee for a plastic bag.
Banning the use of plastic bags is also being
implemented in the following Metro Manila cities: Pasay, Muntinlupa, Pasig,
Marikina, Las PiƱas and Manila.
Many have resorted in using paper bags but I
believe this is also not environment-friendly because it means more trees are
needed to be cut down because of increase in demand of paper, which in turn
will lead to more floods and pollutions.
In the end, in order to save and protect the environment, each one of us should be responsible in disposing our waste products while the government should put into place an effective and efficient garbage collection and disposal system.
