We saw the rise of Pinoy Android smartphones during the last quarter of 2012. Smartphones are now available at very affordable prices thanks to local companies like MyPhone, Cherry Mobile, Starmobile and Cloudfone. Even the common Pinoys or the "masa" can now enjoy the latest in Android powered devices without the hefty price tag. This list of Top 10 Pinoy Android smartphones of 2012 includes phone models that are so hot they were the topics of blogs and online forums. Things considered are price, features, and performance.

MyPhone A848i Duo (which happens to be also known as the i-STYLE Q3 from Thai telecom company i-Mobile.) comes with a 4-inch WVGA 480 x 800 Capacitive display. It has a 1GHz MT6577 dual-core processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB ROM, 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash, 1,600mAh battery and runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

At first glance, this new unit will be mistaken as the Galaxy S3 as their design are strikingly similar. Powered by the popular MT6577 dual-core processor running at 1Ghz, the Cherry Mobile Blaze has 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage that runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. It boasts a 4.7-inch capacitive display at  854x480 FWVGA resolution. Located at the back of the unit is an 8MP autofocus camera with LED flash capable of 720p HD video recording. But despite all these features specially the large screen, it only has 1,500mAh battery which means you need to keep the charger handy or have a backup battery.

The Cloudfone Thrill 430x (also known as Innos D9) is equipped with a very nice display of 4.3-inch QHD (960 x 540 pixels) IPS capacitive screen, which is the original Sharp ASV full-angle screen. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8225 dual-core processor with 1.2GHz  matched up with 768MB RAM and 4GB ROM. This phone has an 8MP main autofocus camera to the rear with dual LED flash while the front camera is 0.3MP and runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. But what sets Cloudfone Thrill 430x apart is its impressive 4,160mAh battery that Cloudfone claims is powerful enough to run the phone for up to three days of moderate use.

7. Starmobile Crystal (Php7,990)

This new Android ICS phone is powered by the popular dual-core 1GHz MT6577 processor and has 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. It has capacitive touchscreen with display resolution of 960 x 540 pixels (QHD). It also features an 8MP autofocus camera w/ LED flash and a 2MP front camera. The battery is a 1700mAh Li-Ion.

The new MyPhone A888 Duo promises to "marry elegance with functionality." This new 3G Android phone comes with a 4.5-inch qHD (960 x 540 pixels) display resolution IPS capacitive screen but thickness is merely at 8.99mm. It has an 8MP rear autofocus camera with dual LED flash that can record 720p HD video while the front camera is also impressive at 1.3MP.

The MyPhone A898 DUO is an upgrade of the MyPhone A878 DUO that was released last October. It features a 1.0 GHz dual-core MTK6577 processor by Media Tek with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of ROM (expandable up to 32GB via micro SD card). This phone has a front facing VGA camera for video calls and an auto-focus 5MP rear camera with dual LED flash that can also record 720p HD videos. It is run by Android 4.0 ICS and powered by a 1800 mAh battery. Connecting this phone to a bigger display via RCA connectors is possible thanks to its TV-out feature. It has a 4.3-inch IPS Capacitive Touchscreen WVGA display at 800x480 pixels resolution.

It is run by Android 4.0 ICS and powered by a 1500 mAh battery. One nice addition to this phone is its mobile TV feature so that you can enjoy watching your favorite shows on its 4.3-inch IPS Capacitive Touchscreen WVGA display at 800x480 pixels resolution while on the road.

It has an 8MP autofocus rear camera with dual LED flash that can record 720p HD or a 3264 x 2448 pixels image. It runs on Android 4.0 ICS and is powered by a Li-Ion 2,000 mAh battery.

It is such a hit in the local market that it's hard to find available units and you have to wait long lines before you can get a hold of it. Flare features a 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8225 S4 processor with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of ROM (expandable up to 32GB via micro SD card). It has a 4.0-inch IPS Capacitive Touchscreen WVGA display at 800x480 pixels. This phone has a front facing VGA camera for video calls and a 5MP auto-focus with LED flash rear camera that can also record 720p HD videos. It is run by Android 4.0 ICS and powered by a 1500 mAh battery.

    Although Torque is Pinoy, they were not able to release a successful Android smartphone model in the level of the other Pinoy brands.

  8. i think sa flare useless ang pagiging dual core na snap dragon kasi 512 lang ang ram at 1500Mah lang ang bat.. high end gaming sana peru dapat hindi sya madali mag lowbat at dapat malaki pa sa 512 ang ram for in-game of 3D and HD games .. mas maganda pa ang sa cloudfone na specs compare to flare.. in my opinion lang....

  11. w0w up until n0w people pushes FLARE to have IPS diasplay .well its already proven its not instead it does have TFT..so i hope thats clarify it..if youstill dont believe me you might wanna go to their official site and thats it

  12. Sir i plan to buy myphone A919, but i have second thought after reading ur article re: HDC Galaxy S4, jiayu G4 and neo N003, what I like in these last 3 phones u featured is the high camera pix. Which is best among these 4?.
