Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 or Cherry Mobile Omega HD: Which one to choose?

This summer, two great smartphones will be released in the Philippine market thanks to Cherry Mobile. The quad-core Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 at Php6,999 price tag and the Cherry Mobile Omega HD at Php7,999. Both models are expected to be in full roll out in April. With very affordable price tags and great specs, it will be hard to decide which one to choose as soon as they come out.

Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 or Cherry Mobile Omega HD

Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0

Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 is a big leap from Cherry Mobile Flame and enters the Pinoy Android scene with guns ablaze sporting a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm MSM8225Q Snapdragon S4 processor and 1GB of RAM. Being the first locally branded quad-core phone, it promises snappy response running your favorite apps and games. You'll definitely enjoy the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS at its full capacity because it doesn't skimp on RAM, 512MB is not enough as with previous releases. These are the main selling points of Flame 2.0 plus the price tag that could persuade one in getting this unit.
Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0
At first glance, the Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 could be mistaken as an iPhone, although it looks more like the Cherry Mobile Flare. It's not surprising as both Cherry Mobile phones came from the same OEM family: the Flame 2.0 aka Karbonn S1 Titanium and the Flare aka Karbonn A9+.

Completing the notable features of Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 are the 5MP autofocus main camera with LED flash, 4.5-inch QHD IPS display at 540 x 960 pixels and dual SIM capability. The downside of the Flame 2.0 is its low capacity battery of only 1,600mAh but don't fret out as it will come  with a free Cherry Mobile power bank until May 31.

Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 Specs:
  • Dual-SIM
  • 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm MSM8225Q Snapdragon S4 CPU
  • Adreno 203 GPU
  • Android Jelly Bean (version 4.1)
  • 1GB RAM | 4GB internal storage
  • microSD card slot (up to 32GB)
  • 4.5-inch IPS Capacitive Touchscreen qHD display (540 x 960 resolution)
  • 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash
  • VGA front camera
  • WiFi b/g/n, WiFi Hotspot, GPS, 3G, Bluetooth
  • 1600mAh battery (free Cherry Mobile power bank until May 31)
  • Comes in Black or White
Cherry Mobile Omega HD

Now comes the Cherry Mobile Omega HD, which is basically way above the Cherry Mobile Omega when it comes to features, boasts a 5-inch IPS HD display that is scratch resistant thanks to its Dragontrail Glass protection. So even if you purposely scratch its screen with a knife or a key it will not leave any marks on the screen!
Cherry Mobile Omega HD

Another key feature of the Omega HD is its 12MP BSI autofocus camera with LED flash that can shoot 1080p HD video. Backside illumination (BSI) technology greatly improves image capture even at low-light conditions.

Also known as i-Mobile IQ6, the Cherry Mobile Omega HD is powered by 1GHz MT6577H dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM that smoothly runs the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. Battery life should be good, thanks to its 2,100mAh battery.

Cherry Mobile Omega HD Specs:
  • Dual SIM
  • 1GHz dual-core MT6577H CPU
  • PowerVR SGX531 GPU
  • Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean
  • 1GB RAM
  • 4GB Internal Storage, expandable up to 32GB via microSD
  • 5-inch IPS Capacitive Touchscreen, 1280×720 resolution (HD)
  • Scratch-resistant Dragon Trail Glass Technology
  • 12.0-megapixels rear-facing camera with BSI and LED Flash
  • 2.0-megapixels front-facing camera with BSI
  • 2,100 mAh battery
  • Comes in Black or White
The Cherry Mobile Omega HD is the direct competition of Starmobile Diamond but at a cheaper price tag.

  2. can you suggest which of these 2 ur gonna choose

    ReplyDelete
  3. i'll go for Omega..
yes aganda talaga ang chipset ng Flame since its quadcore. un lang ang maipagmamalaki nia.. the rest wala na.. lalo na ang batt na 1600mah.. for high end phone, its important to have a batt of more than 2000mah.. I have samsung tab 2 with 4000 mAh battery, napaka bilis nia ma-lowbatt.. siguro sa maghapon 2-3x icharge. lalo na if u leave ur fb open and yor playing games at the same time.

  4. mga sir, kung performance hanap nyo for hard core gamers and what not, FLAME 2.0. Yung processor nya is designed not to consume that much battery kaya sakto lang po yung 1600mah.

Pero kung media entertainment at big screen hanap nyo, no doubt sa OHD kayo.

  5. Gawa n lng kaya sila ng batt na mas malaki ang mah taz benta...

  27. @everydayMike

games need the framerate which application proc. cant give that's why there's this called gpu's right? I think flame2 is for normal use only no hardcore games/entertainment, don't get me wrong you can still play games and watch movies but don't expect high fps.
Omega HD is just a balance with dualcore and a relatively good gpu that's why it can handle HD, try to put HD attributes to the flame2 and i doubt if you can use it smoothly without lags.

    ReplyDelete
  28. @Marvs
Let me try to rectify that.
Processors need much power when they are loaded that is why they introduce more cores to spread out the load and also power rating is another impt. factor in processors and that depends on different architectures.

To make it more clear to everyone, the cpu's that we are talking about whether its dual/quad are popularly known as "Application Processors" to platform developers/engineers. And im sure you can figure it out why they put "Application" to describe it. And im pretty sure also that everyone knows the purpose of GPU's right?

So with this knowledge you can figure out which one is best for a specific use case.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Anonymous
I'm not certain about the specs of the 2phones but i'll just base it on whether they are HD or not.

Obviously Omega is HD and flame2 i believe is not which means Omega needs to fill more pixels to display a single frame and also considering that (i assumed) it has a higher pixel density which makes it more loaded of pixels to fill and that's why they put a decent gpu on that phone. And also your 720p movie is exactly 720p when played on Omega but not on flame2.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Personally, i would rather have OmegaHD than Flame2.0 bec. flame2's advantage is on the processor side only and the rest is the same with OmegaHD.

On the perspective side of the OmegaHD, it has a good gpu to realize the HD feature. With respect to the processor, yes it only has dualcore but many developers whether App or Platform developers they believe that Android OS doesn't need a lot of cores to run smoothly, dualcore is enough but of course as the OS matures there would be features that need the help of additional cores.

So for a developer's POV, OmegaHD is promising, cheers!
