Popular sports network ESPN recently named Nonito Donaire Jr. as Fighter of the Year. The honor was given to the Filipino Flash after impressively ruling the super bantamweight division.
Donaire won all his four title bouts this year and was an "easy pick" as ESPN.com Boxer of the Year. He dominated the 122-pound division with knockout wins over the likes of former champion Toshiaki Nishioka of Japan.
On December 15, 2012 in Houston, Texas Donaire successfully retained the WBO and The Ring super bantamweight titles against the Mexican Jorge Arce via third round knock out with 2:59 remaining. He floored Arce once in the second round, and once in the third round, before the knockout that ended the match.
The 30 year old fighter from General Santos City, Philippines is a four-division world champion and the reigning WBO, The Ring and WBC Diamond Super Bantamweight Champion.
